Charlemagne Slaughters 4,500 Pagans
October 782 In Verden (present-day Germany), Charlemagne ordered the beheading of 4,500 pagan Saxons who refused his forced conversion to Christianity. They were beheaded by Christian monks who bought favor with the Carolingian Empire.
