A Day in the Life of an Úlfheðinn

In the Arctic/Polar Winter.

What follows is a typical day for us during the Arctic/Polar Winter. Our schedule and activities tend to be different in other seasons (I will post an update as we enter each new season).

Notes: 

When in Svalbard, it is completely dark for several months, between the end of October and mid-February. In northern parts of mainland Norway, we see some daylight, but it is primarily twilight, and while we may guess the sun is below the horizon, we do not see it.

Væringjar, the tier 1 units of Jómsvíkingar, dedicated to the service and protection of hybrids, mature or not, usually are on 8-hours shifts, engaging in the same activities as us. When we are indoors, some Væringjar, on rotations, have 2-hour shifts outside guarding the hall, followed by 2-hour inside with us, and 2-hour outside again, followed by 2-hour inside again.

Our typically winter days may sound lazy, but they include around 6 hours of intense physical exercise, not including sex (which can be pretty intense).

Lately, we have been involving pups with our day-to-day life at a much earlier age than in the past. In part because women/their mothers do not provide the care we want, and also because it has been proven to be very beneficial for the boys. As a result, there is a complex organization around pups being skillfully herded and looked after by specific bros on rotations in various locations, and through different activities, to keep them away from other bros in order for them to have sex without the knowledge or presence of pups who are not exposed to anything sexual, not even talking, until a few days before they reach sexual maturity.

There are men, who are not Úlfheðinn or Berserkir (think þrælar) who perform the activities we have no interest in and which we deem to be a waste of our time. This includes cleaning, preparing food, laundry, storing and organizing equipment and gear for outings, etc…

An Úlfheðinn, especially oathed, will normally engage in sexual activity resulting in ejaculation an average of 10 times per day, consistent with the concept of Óðr.

We usually wake up. All of us typically slept on a big pile in the common/main room of our quarters (hall) on reindeer hides and wool blankets. Generally fully naked. We have individual rooms (for two guys) with individual bathrooms and saunas in most locations, but in winter, we tend to stay together at night to keep warm, and simply because we actually love physical contact with each other, as well as our scent (note we hate it otherwise if it doesn’t involve the bros of our pack). We’re talking two units (1 and 3), so that’s 24 guys, plus usually one operator (Berserkr) and a few Væringjar. Sometimes, you also have to add up a pack of pups. 

We wake up late in the day, because our circadian cycles are nocturnal. Besides, it is absolute darkness (outside of moonlight, stars or auroras borealis) 24/7 anyway. Waking up doesn’t mean getting up. We typically spend the next hour having sex, which is the preferred method to awaken. Wherever we are if no pups are around. If pups are around, we crawl towards our individual rooms, saunas, bathing areas etc… to be away from the boys.

We go wash. Which may involve a sauna as well. We only use basic soap. No deodorant. No shampoo. No lotion. We tend to focus on entire body, but with much less emphasis on pits and sometimes crotch as these are the hot spots for androsterone, and a great deal of communications, dominance, and sexual behavior is based on that hormone. We brush our teeth and tongue for about 10 minutes. Usually we have sex again.

We go out skiing. Normally, telemark skiing, which is a combination of cross-country and downhill skiing, allowing us to move on (relatively) flat terrain, go up, and also go downhill. We usually take some pups with us. We cover substantial areas. We take frequent breaks to cool down, by laying in snow and watching the stars and northern lights. We usually have sex again. Unless pups are around, then we organize ourselves to do it away from the pups. We also combine marksmanship while on skis, whether with rifles, pistols or bows. At one point or another, we will have a disagreement, usually between the predominantly Norwegian unit (1) and the predominantly Danish unit (3), which will be settled by a fight. Generally friendly, but even if it isn’t overly friendly, we still go back to being the BBF (Best Bros Forever) as soon as we’re done. Typically, we have sex again after a fight. We may harvest game, or fish, even though we have food reserves from the Summer and Fall, if we come across something suitable.

We usually fix/maintain things that need fixing/maintaining. At hall, equipment, firearms, outdoor gear, snowmobiles, planes, while discussing plans/schedules for the next days, weeks or seasons. We usually involve pups so they may learn. We will typically have sex again, usually in rotations so other bros can look after the pups away from the action, while their bros are fucking.

We allocate two hours every day to fighting, grappling, glíma. This may take many forms, and involve may men. Sometimes it is just between the 24 men of our units, but most often, it involves other operators (Berserkir) or Úlfhéðnar. Pups are usually in attendance, and sometimes playfully get involved with each other or with their dads, mimicking the big fights. When Berserkir take part in the fights (frequent), the one coming out winner among his peer usually spends the night at the hall with the Úlfhéðnar (including Blendingar) who are not oathed. We invariably have sex after fighting, at the most intense level of the day due to built up of sweat and androsterone from several hours of physical activity and contact.

Feeding time, which also happens to be the time for entertainment, with banter and wit. It is the most socially active time of the day when it comes to talking (Hybrids indeed normally talk very little, so we don’t talk much either). Food normally consists of freshly roasted game (reindeer or moose depending on location), and/or fish (cod or salmon/trout or Arctic char depending on location), a lot of milk, sometimes with a tiny bit of honey, cheese, and berries. We may also drink some very sweet mead, but always in moderation and never to the point of being intoxicated. Some guys have quick naps in between food intake. Oral sex while eating is also common for some guys (once again, if no pups around).

Relaxing time. Everyone is quiet, by the main fire. One of the guys usually plays the bukkehorn for a bit. It is the time to tell stories, including to the pups, of their fathers, their grandfathers, their ancestors, the Sagas, our oral traditions, our legends. It is also a time of education for the pups (and often operators alike). Some may nap for a bit. We have sex again after we put the pups to sleep.

We normally spend 2 hours alternating saunas with diving in holes we make in the sea/lake ice outside. We also usually compete for speed and technique swimming at extremely high intensity for about an hour in freezing water. Some guys have sex in sauna, at least often starting in sauna, and ending up on the ice when they get too hot.

We finish the day by having sex once again back at the hall, until we fall asleep. We tend to sleep a minimum of 8 hours, usually closer to 10, with some waking up throughout the night to have more sex.
