The United States military may stand out for many reasons. One such specificities is the Berry Act and Berry-compliance requirements that ensure that not only all equipment is manufactured in the United States of materials made in the United States, but meets certain minimum standards, including FR/FR (Fire/Flame Resistant and Fire/Flame Retardant) and NIR (Near InfraRed) Compliance. This ensures a supply chain at home that is not dependent on foreign countries and even actual enemy states, while also providing gear that is fit for purpose, does not melt on skin when exposed to fire (or explosions), or does not glow in the dark.

The United States, however, are an exception within NATO and the west.

In fact, other western countries, including within NATO, have normalized offshore production of equipment that doesn’t meet basic FR/FR or NIR standards for their militaries and law enforcement. Not only are these militaries now primarily relying on distant supply chains dependent on geopolitical events, but even supply chains controlled by their own enemies, such as China. If this wasn’t bad enough it itself, these western militaries are also equipping their troops with equipment that will greatly help their enemies kill them during combat engagements. The CCP can rejoice in knowing most clothing used in western militaries will first make soldiers glow as targets, then will conveniently neutralize these same soldiers by catching fire and/or melting on their skin when exposed to enemy fire.

The pioneer in what accounts to treason may have been Brynje in Norway several decades ago when the company secured a government contract to equip Norwegian SOF with base layers made of literal plastic that melted on skin. All based on a dubious school paper posing as research and a study by a cadet at a Norwegian military academy, with a conflict of interest, as well as the public claim that this was what the operators wanted. As if any remotely competent special forces operator would favor a base layers that has an alleged marginally faster rate of drying (by a few minutes according to our testing) over Flame Resistant and Retardant underwear. As if any soldier, given a say, would go for a base layer killing them in horrible pain by melting on their skin when under fire just so it could dry a few minutes faster when wet. It is also worth noting that Norwegian males now have the lowest sperm count in Europe. Nothing to do, I’m sure, with Brynje wrapping their body and balls in plastic for decades.

Brynje is not the only case of western companies producing equipment that is not fit for purpose, and, generally offshore on top of it. Norrøna advertised developing the Recon Goretex like for Swedish, Danish and Norwegian SOF. A line that is not NIR compliant, and thus glows in the dark, and is manufactured in China.

Carinthia also recently moved production to Asia as well, going as far as falsely claiming manufacturing in “extended Europe area” (Asia is not Europe, extended or not), for equipment that was neither FR or NIR-compliant in the first place. Arc’teryx Pro (formerly LEAF), also manufactures almost everything offshore, with the exception of tactical Alpha jackets and pants, made in Canada, but still not FR, and with the exception of the Multicam version, not even NIR-compliant.

The latest push for deadly and unfit-for-purpose military and law enforcement equipment in Europe is the UF Pro combat clothing from German Mehler Systems, not only manufactured offshore, but also a fire hazard. Shamelessly sold at a higher price than American-made and fit-for-purpose Crye Precision G3 combat pants.

This latest development within western militaries, based on a trend of unfathomable incompetence (or sabotage) at all leadership levels has already resulted in a carnage in Ukraine, with Ukrainian soldiers becoming glow in the dark targets and dying or being maimed for life by literally plastic melting on their body. Yet, the strategy of replacing tactical gear with crap is accelerating.

An entire generation of soldiers, in addition to being seen as canon fodder for foreign powers at the hands of deranged psychopathic women, now also have to contend with being equipped with subpar equipment that will kill them in combat. Assuming said equipment can even be delivered to them at the slightest geopolitical disruption.

The west (outside of the United States), and Europe specifically, has already lost any future war they will take part in.

Official issue gear has always been equipment meeting the minimum standards and the lowest possible price. This is why any serious fighter, and pretty much all SOF operators, have always selected their own gear, based on their own operational and individual requirements.

NATO forces, however, may it be the U.S. military or Scandinavian military, not only are now issued substandard equipment that no longer meets minimum standards, but are not even able to source better quality gear, no matter their budget. Manufacturers have gone woke, insane, or a combination of both, and simply no longer produce suitable equipment for warriors.

Let’s look at a few providers:

Brynje of Norway

This may be the most mind boggling case in military history. In 2016, Brynje somehow secured a contract to equip Norwegian Special Forces with base layers marketed as “Tactical Arctic”. Flammable base layers that would melt and drip upon contact with a fire source, turning the wearer into a roman candle. Why? To this day, it is difficult to comprehend. It would however appear that a bureaucrat, most likely female, decided a synthetic fabric with marginally faster drying rate took precedence over fire resistant or fire retardant fabric.

If this was not bad enough, the synthetic fabric used in the inner mesh of the base layers was made of polypropylene. Not only an absolute environmental disasters due to microplastic shedding (now even present in humans’ brain), but also the effect on the endocrine system. So, not only did Brynje and Forsvaret (Norwegian military) equipped its special forces with flammable combat gear, but also with a fabric that effectively nuked their swimmers and testosterone. Possibly linked at this point to Norwegian males having the lowest sperm count in all of Europe, despite otherwise enjoying a better quality of life and a much cleaner as well as less contaminated environment than the rest of Europe.

Brynje, eventually, dropped the polypropylene mesh fabric on tactical base layers in 2024, finally producing suitable wool base layers in a military and Arctic context. However, the reprieve was short lived. Following a radical turn to the left after embracing the UN Agenda 2030 (at which point Brynje no longer sponsored males and only focused on females), they had a bright idea this year to make base layers unisex (we all know a male and female body are identical in shape), and even remove the fly on longs. So, in order to be woke and inclusive to women (who do not belong nor can perform in combat in the first place), operators in the Arctic would now need to pull their pants down, and their longs down, just to take a leak, facing frostbites and significant vulnerabilities in a combat context.

Norrøna

Norrøna, at some point, secured a contract to equip Scandinavian special forces (Norway, Sweden and Denmark) with Goretex shells, sold under the “Recon” name. Besides the gear not being Fire Resistant or Fire Retardant, something I guess we as Nordic special forces have to get used to, the pants and jackets were not NIR-compliant and, you guessed it, effectively glowed in the dark…

Fimbulvetr Tankr-X

Only one company in the world produced snow shoes suitable for Arctic combat operations: the Fimbulvetr Tankr-X. Produced in Norway. But with the company shutting down, due to difficulties competing with state-subsidized cheap gear made by slave labor in enemy countries, there is no longer any acceptable and suitable option available for snow shoes.

Arc’teryx LEAF

Glowing in the dark and not being NIR-compliant was not limited to Norrøna. The Norwegian military eventually got a contract with Arc’teryx LEAF for Goretex shells. Like Norrøna, outside of the multicam version (only used by MJK and FSK during specific ops), none of the garments were NIR-compliant, and all glowed in the dark as well.

Carinthia

The Austrian company, previously known for producing gear of reasonable quality in Europe, including extreme cold sleeping bags, recently decided to engage in full blown fraud. They quietly moved production to Asia, renaming the continent… “extended Europe area”… You can’t make this up. Besides the blatant deceit and fraud under EU laws, resulting, naturally, in a catastrophic drop in quality.

Mystery Ranch

The military equipment train wreck is not limited to Scandinavia. Mystery Ranch, previously known for the quality and mission-ready aspect of its military line, particularly the Jump packs, completely dropped the ball as well shortly after being acquired by Yeti (known for producing cheap gear in China sold in America at an obscene price, and also for one of the largest recalls in American history).

First, they changed the woke to some narrower, thinner and flimsy version designed, you guessed it, to accommodate women bodies, and becoming beyond uncomfortable for men. The actual dudes jumping from planes with the packs. They also replaced the plastic frame in yoke with a much thinner and wabbly version that no longer gives the packs any structural rigidity. The new version is like wearing a duffle bag on your back.

Mystery Ranch also increased stitching allowance to 1/4 of an inch, meaning that the webbing has become irregular, making it a challenge to attach and detach pouches, especially with cold fingers with diminished dexterity.

It is worth noting as well that Mystery Ranch stopped producing Berry-compliant packs in Montana many, many years ago, subcontracting instead to various companies all over the countries. Americans at least were lucky enough to get a Berry-compliant version… Other militaries have to make due with packs produced even more cheaply offshore, but still sold at an obscene price.

To add insult to injury, Mystery Ranch no longer honors warranty claims for anyone who dares pointing out the shortcomings of their new production.

Safariland and Magpul

Previously household names in America for anything military and tactical, both have started to shift production offshore, leading to a significant decrease in quality, durability and reliability.

Crye Precision

While the Crye Precision G3 Combat Pants remain a standard in combat gear, and are still made in America, they are very difficult to get. Ruins your pants in some op? Except to have to wait several months for a replacement.

One should also remember the complete fiasco the G4 combat pants, supposed to be an upgrade and improved version of the G3’s, have been. As per a review by one of our guys.

No Suitable Equipment

At this point, there is no longer base layers suitable for Arctic operations and sufficiently durable for a military environment. There is no longer Goretex shells suitable for military operations. Reliable and Jump packs ready for the mission are not longer available. Even suitable magazines are difficult to find. Mere combat pants still exist but are a challenge to source and replace.

It is now gear designed to accommodate women, at the expense of the actual warriors needing and using it, impractical for male needs and bodies, expected to melt on your and glow in the dark. Most being also produced in, and thus relaying on, enemy states.

This is our smaller pack, or EDC (Every Day Carry), a Mystery Ranch ASAP, which is used instead of a purse (popular for all European “men” except Nordics) and instead of a fanny pack (popular for Canadians and other gay people).

The Arc’teryx LEAF (Law Enforcement Armed Forces) DryPack 25 is ideal for specific amphibious operations, or when you really need to keep your gear dry not only in pouring rain, but while crossing rivers, swimming in the ocean, or even going under water. The pack can indeed float in inflated through external valve (and thus also be used as a flotation device), or sink and be kept underwater when deflated accordingly.

The shoulder straps are relatively comfortable. Two metal frames inside the pack can be adjusted to fit your back. There’s also some lower back padded support, and a waist belt. The oversized zip handle can also be secured with velcro so the pack doesn’t open while in the water.

Outside of a small inside front pocket, and inside velcro on the back, there is no organization inside the pack. We use Fjällräven gear pocket, and gear bags (regular and large). A Fjällräven large gear bag fits perfectly in the Arc’teryx DryPack 25, and you can actually fit two of those if you don’t use the space for something else. The Fjällräven gear pockets and bags can easily transfer into another pack. The pack also fits a 13” MacBook Pro laptop in a sleeve or carrier.

While we cannot discuss actual operations, we can say that the Arc’teryx DryPack 25 was a lifesaver in Germany, escaping an internment camp, which required having to cross a river in the middle of the night. Everything in the pack, including laptop, was kept completely dry.

The pack is currently also used as a light/Summer travel pack by several Úlfhéðnar units.

The pack is entirely made in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It retails for about $800 (C$ 1,050) to the general public, with a substantial discount for Active Duty military. Well worth the money.

BTW, wondering what the watch is? ORIS United States Marines Force Recon… As for the jacket, it is indeed the Arc-teryx LEAF Alpha jacket Gen 2, made in Canada as well. Retails for $950 (or C$1,200) without a military discount.

The Mystery Ranch Jump Komodo is Berry-compliant, and thus entirely made in Montana (USA) of U.S. parts. It is a jump pack, so, yeah, you can jump with it. It features jump-rated Type 7 webbing on all jump connections, Tex 138 thread on all Jump web for reinforcement and higher break strength, dual-point release system to attach to jump harness, reinforced tie-in loops, lowering line attachment points, and D-rings for securing the toggle zippers.

Pack also comes with BVS (Bolstered Ventilation and Stability system) used for a secure fit over body armor . It can can be easily removed. Waist belt stows away when not in use. It has a 3-ZIP design for easy, rapid access to the interior. PALS webbing on exterior and interior accommodates MOLLE accessories. Two internal side pockets, with a pass-through back. Two external side pockets for pouches. Two external zipped top pockets. Zip opening at the back for antenna or hose when using a water reservoir. Two side large sleeves inside the pack, and a small bottom sleeve. PALS webbing panel inside pack, as well as webbing on outside of pack. Pack also features front and size compression straps. Velcro on lid for identification and patches.

The frame is not NICE, but fully adjustable Futura yoke telescopes to fit any torso length.

The pack is the maximum allowed side for a carry-on bag with most airlines (except Qantas, pronounced Kuntas, as they allocate the majority of their ground staff as carry-on Gestapo, rather than assistance or customer service, and they will force you to check in the bag if they arbitrarily deem it to be 1/4 of an inch oversize, or 1 oz overweight). Pack also fits in overhead compartments of most smaller commuter aircraft.

For organization, pack fits perfectly 4 Fjällräven Gear Bags, vertically, at the bottom, when using a Fjällräven 13” laptop sleeve (which can be replaced with a Camelbak Armorbak), as well as 1 Fjällräven Large Gear Bag, flat, towards the top when the side sleeves are fully filled. The top main zipped compartment on lid also fits 3 Fjällräven Gear pockets. As we have a lot of U.S. Marines among our ranks, we have found that using color-codes bags and pockets works well. As for what stored/carried in each of these pockets, it is beyond the scope of this review. For convenience, Fjällräven Gear Bags and Pockets can also be quickly and easily transferred between packs.

The pack and shoulder straps are exceptionally comfortable, even without the use of the wait belt.

The pack is currently also used as a carry-on travel pack by several Úlfhéðnar units.

Overall an excellent pack, although the material used on the back as well as inside of shoulder straps, probably meant for better air flow, is easily damaged when in contact with any velcro. The material previously used on older pack was better and more durable.

The pack retails for $495, and is only available within the United States.

The Nordisk Asgard 12.6 is a classic, single wall, spacious bell cotton tent with room for up to 6 normal people. Or two hybrids together with two regular Ulfs (maybe a bit crowded, but we like to sleep in piles). The simple centre pole construction makes it easy to pitch and the tall sides offer maximum utilization of the floor space. The sides are equipped with ground level D-shaped windows the allows you to increase ventilation, light and view. Both windows and main entrance have mosquito nets so you can open up without being eaten alive. The cotton fabric keeps the interior cool and comfortable. A tailored zip-in groundsheet, tailored cabins and an extra high wall are all available as accessories.

To our surprise, the tent is completely waterproof somehow, and was able to withstand strong winds over 120kmh in the Arctic tundra. 

Yeti Division of Nordisk, a Danish company, and made in Germany. 

Rated -48C for extreme (Hybrids tested it at -80C in Antarctica). -28C comfort for dudes (-20C for women, but not our focus).

We were generally comfortable around -25C, sleeping naked. We were freezing our ass off at -45C, but did not develop hypothermia, and thus survived the night.

Fabric is durable, and water repellent, if not waterproof (relevant if you use an igloo, as temperature in a well-built one will reach +8C). Even if it gets wet, down is treated to repel water as well. The bag is exceptionally comfortable, with more down at the feet, which is often a cold part of the body in extreme climates. Sizes are spot on based on a dude’s height. Bag is also very light.

Of course, as if any down item, sleeping bag should be stored loose, in the mesh bag provided. A compression bag is also provided for transportation during expedition.

The Nordisk Arktis 1400 bag beats by far the Mountain Hardwear Ghost, which was great, but not as good as the Nordisk, not to mention that the Mountain Hardwear is made in China, and thus, evidently, with tortured geese and enslaved children. 

The Nordisk Arktis 1400 is the only extreme weather bag we are aware of that is still made in Europe.

As for those of you thinking you probably don’t need such a bag based on where you live, that’s okay, because they are sold out as we bought all the ones we could find. But if we did go on a purchasing rampage, it should get you concerned… Maybe we foresee Europe getting colder down the road with a slow down of the Gulfstream, and people freezing to death because of the insane reliance on “green” energies (which are, in fact, anything but green).

Anorak is derived from the word “Annuraaq”, an Inuktitut term for, well, an anorak. A garment traditionally in use in Greenland, a territory under the rule of our Danish Bros, as well as in other Arctic/Polar regions.

We found the use of a Fjällräven Anorak No. 8 as part of a multi-layer system to be more practical, more comfortable, and warmer than wearing a typical heavy duty, full length, down parka.

A parka is indeed too bulky for freedom of movement if you are active. A parka also doesn’t really allow efficient layering, doesn’t breath, has no venting, meaning you may end up on the verge of a heat stroke after some strenuous activity, or sweat so much that you may later die from hypothermia. A typical parka also has a front zipper, which allows drafts and heat loss, no matter how well it is designed. 

The Fjällräven Anorak No. 8, on the other hand, allows you to have multiple layers, including down, as required, and to take the layers off as needed. Without a front zipper, there is no heat loss to the wind. It is also a more durable shell than most parkas would be. The side zippers are normally less exposed to the wind, due to position and sleeves, so they do not lead to significant heat loss. They however allow to vent when you are getting warm, which you cannot do with a parka. The side zippers also make taking the anorak off much easier. The anorak can also be waterproof, and is wind-proof. The adjustable hood with foldable visor is massive, allowing for your own little ecosystem around your head, particularly suitable in case of blizzard or other difficult weather conditions. High collar also keeps your neck warm. A kangaroo pocket is also very practical to carry maps and other large items. 

The Fjällräven Anorak No. 8 is also much more versatile than a full size parka as it can be used year-round in any environment, based on simply modifying your layers depending on the conditions. 

Ultimately, there is a reason why Norwegian explorers, including Amundsen, have always used Anoraks. They are just the way to go when you are active in the far north.

The Fjällräven Anorak No. 8 is best with the Fjällräven Gaiter No. 1 pants (we don’t care about the gaiters but we like the trousers turning into shorts). Both are also made in Europe, so you don’t support enemies when you buy your gear. Of course, the fact these are not made in China explain the relatively high cost.

We compared three models: Revision Military ShadowStrike, Oakley SI Custom Flak 2.0 XL and Revision Military Speed Demon.

Revision Military ShadowStrike

Overview

First, a warning. Revision Military provides two versions: APEL/Berry-Compliant (only one set available, and no polarized lens option), and all other sets made off-shore. 

The glasses are light and comfortable. The frame being plastic, and the temples being designed to fit with helmet, however, means the glasses won’t stay on your face and will fall off by just bending over. The elastic strap (provided) is therefore necessary. The mechanism to replace lenses is relatively easy, but because it involves a movable nose piece, this tends to get undone by putting glasses on and off. When it comes to ballistic lenses, they are interchangeable, obviously, with multiple options. Lenses made in China cannot reasonably be deemed to be reliable so we will only refer to the lenses made in the USA. Ballistic tests for the lenses themselves were acceptable. However, the very design of the glasses presents critical flaws that are likely to cause injury even with ballistic lenses. This is because the frame is plastic, and thus, will break/snap on impact. With ballistic lenses being of little use as a result if they are not kept in front of your eyes. Similarly, in the event of impact, the nose piece is likely to come undone, once again, resulting in lenses not being held in place. There is no vision enhancement with these glasses. The glasses provide a good coverage of the eyes.

When it comes to look, as a civilian pointed out: “They look like cheap glasses you got at Walgreens for $5.”

Conclusion

The Revision Military APEL/Berry-Compliant ShadowStrike will not provide reliable protection despite the lenses meeting ballistic standards because of unreliable material of frames and significant design flaws. 

Primary purpose of these lenses is therefore to LARP in Suburbia and should not be used in any combat situation. 

Oakley SI Custom Flak 2.0 XL

Overview

Oakley may be the most grossly incompetent and dysfunctional company in America (previously owned, as we pointed out in a previous article, by an Italian firm). In addition, even though some glasses are assembled in California, it would appear components are made in China, even for the Oakley SI (Standard Issue) variations, despite claims of APEL/Berry-Compliance. 

Being produced offshore, the alleged ballistic aspect of the lenses cannot be guaranteed. The frame being plastic, it is also subject to failure on impact. The lenses, however, are more secure than with the ShadowStrike. The Flak are very light and comfortable to wear, but on the smaller side of things. Vision enhancement is significant, especially when combining Prism and polarized options. Coverage of eyes presents multiple gaps, above, underneath and on the sides. 

Design-wise, they do look good. For the price, though, I think they feel cheap, and are certainly very different from older generation Oakley’s that were made in the United States.

Conclusion

JCD glasses to wear every day, offering maybe some type of protection if you get attacked by a hajji, a Jew, or any other diversity while minding your own business. Again, we certainly wouldn’t use them in combat.

Revision Military Speed Demon

Overview

While the glasses are not advertised as Berry-compliant, they are manufactured and assembled in the United States, of U.S. parts, including lenses. They are a joint production between Fast Metal and Revision Military newer I-vis lenses. 

The glasses are aluminum. While relatively comfortable, especially considering you can adjust the frame and temple by bending, they still are not as comfortable as plastic frames. The lenses, which are easily changeable, are much more secure than both the ShadowStrike and Flak glasses, in part because they have to be popped out (rather than in) with very specific pressure point, therefore ensuring the lens will stay in place during impact. The frame being metal, it will also resits any impact much better than plastic frames. The I-vis replaceable lenses come in multiple options for a variety of environments, including the desert of Afghanistan, but also woodland areas, and, surprise, the snowy mountain environments of Norway. Vision enhancement is actually significant, and at par with Oakley Prism polarized lenses. Eye coverage is not as extensive as ShadowStrike, but better than the Flak. The Speed Demon offer good ballistic protection.

As far as look goes, they are not as good as Oakley, but they are better than ShadowStrike. 

Conclusion

Only model of sunglasses among the three options reviewed that reasonably provides ballistic protection, and thus, can be used in actual combat. They can also be used as every day glasses, although not ideal.

Simply the best traditional telemark skis on the market, not beat by modern technology to date.

Your combat gear should meet various requirements, including FR (Fire-Retardant) and NIR-Compliant (Near InfraRed).

FR means that your equipment will not catch fire and/or melt on you when exposed to a source of heat, including IED (Improvised Explosive Devices), missiles, strikes from drones, or just finding yourself in something that has been set on fire, like a tank or vehicle (armored or not).

NIR-Compliance involves Near-InfraRed (NIR) Signature Management Technology that is used to prevent detection of individuals by NIR Image Converters. These photocathode devices do not detect temperatures, but rather infrared radiation variances. NIR-compliant equipment uses a special fabric/treatment/conditioning that allows individuals to appear at the same radiation level as the surrounding terrain, thus making them more difficult to detect.

In practice, when it comes to FR, you shall only use clothing that is certified FR, or that is at least 80% (preferably more) wool. Including, and maybe especially, base layers. This means that stuff like Under Armour, for some reasons popular for a time with service members, is absolutely out, as it is made of synthetic fabrics, which will not only disrupt your endocrine system lowering your testosterone levels and sperm count, but also will melt on your skin when exposed to an open flame or even high source of heat.

When it comes to NIR-compliance, it means that gear that is not Berry-compliant or at least produced in Europe or Canada is very unlikely to be NIR-compliant. This includes cheap stuff you get on Amazon, made in China, or pretty much the entire 5.11 line. On the other hand, gear such as Crye Precision G3 Combat pants and shirts, Arc’teryx LEAF Alpha jackets and pants, or even Mystery Ranch Jump Komodo pack are NIR-compliant. This means that you will not stand out in the field and will even completely blend in your surroundings, depending on camo pattern and environment.

Their Tankr-X snowshoes are simply the motha of all snowshoes. They are a jaw dropping nearly one meter long (38”) and 25cm wide (10”), but only weight just over 3kgs (7 lbs). This means these snowshoes are even suitable for Blendingar. They include an all direction flexible hinge system that allows you to adapt smoothly to any snow surface ensuring excellent traction and stability. The Hugin (yup) binding is easy to mount, and provides tight secure fitting without any pressure point, for long days (or nights) or comfortable use. They are also completely functional at -40C/-40F for extreme cold weather operations, and are simply indestructible. Their design allows for operation on any terrain, including mountain, with particularly heavy loads and exceptional maneuverability.

Forget SIG. Glock will perform better and more reliably in extreme environments, including cold, dirt, dust, sand, water and snow.

For open carry, go with a Glock 17. For concealed, a 19 may be better. Generation 4 is the way to go, Gen 5 doesn’t have significant improvements.
